BACKGROUND

Since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the U.S. government has spent more than $500 billion on a multitude of homeland security, counterterrorism and disaster preparedness issues.  And while these are all worthwhile efforts and certainly the right thing to do, the nation has yet to recognize and respond to the war that is being waged against our children.

More than 2,100 children are reported missing every day in America.  That's one child every 40 seconds.  And yet members of congress allocated a mere $40 million last year for programs to assist missing and exploited children.

REDEFINING HOMELAND SECURITY

Don L. Rondeau, a father and veteran homeland security professional who has led a federal information sharing and analysis center, believes the most urgent emerging threat to our nation is the security and safety of our most precious asset -- our children.

"We've spent billions of dollars, some say trillions of dollars when you count the wars, on homeland and national security, and yet a little girl can just disappear," said Rondeau.  "I'm not going to accept that."

Rondeau's perspective changed on Dec. 28, 2010, when a young girl went missing in Baltimore, MD.  She was an honor student and an athlete with a bright future ahead of her.  "This was a girl who was doing all the right things," said Rondeau, "and one day, poof, she goes missing."

After a four-month search involving hundreds of volunteers, including Rondeau, the young woman was found deceased 40 miles northeast of Baltimore.

But for Rondeau, who also contributed his own money to the reward fund, the search for justice in that case continues. And now, it's about all children and ensuring that what happened on that cold December day in Baltimore doesn't happen again.

"The mission is to ensure that all children get equal attention and that we raise awareness about this crisis," states Rondeau.  "Right now children are missing, endangered and being abused.  My faith propels me to do something about it.  My hope is that the show will serve as a platform for all children and ensure that those children who do not typically receive the support of the main stream media are better served," says Rondeau.

"This is not just a show to watch, it is something to become a part of," he continues. "It's not about finger pointing and blame.  We all have to ask the hard questions of ourselves.  Do we know all we should about this issue?  Have we communicated our desire to protect children to our elected officials?  Have we acted to ensure that the police and other child protective agencies have the resources they need to protect kids?  I do not point fingers, I seek solutions and I want the viewers of this show and all who have a stake in keeping children safe to join me."

Don L. Rondeau Is The Protector explores one man's efforts to find justice on behalf of society's most vulnerable and powerless -- missing, abused and exploited children who deserve better.

"We are in a fight for the soul of our nation. It is a vicious fight with high stakes. It is a fight we cannot lose. Sexual predators, abusers, sex traffickers are targeting our kids. I need you to stand with me. I need you to be a protector."
